Hardipanel on the exterior

September 15, 2007

Still waiting to pass the HVAC inspection…. supposedly it’ll happen on Monday and then we can finally start drywalling.

Meanwhile, the hardipanel on the exterior has been installed. It’ll be painted (not sure of color yet… currently thinking about a burnt orange color for the hardipanel and greyish-brown for the stucco). There are white metal trim pieces that divide the hardipanel and act as an accent. These will remain white.

Here are some updated photos:

It’s not fun playing “will the inspector show up today?”

September 11, 2007

We’ve been waiting a few weeks to get our HVAC and framing inspections done. The inspector says he’ll show up, but then never does. We’re behind schedule as we wait for him to show up and sign off on the previous work since we can’t do anything else on the interior until we get this sign off. Building a house in the City of Atlanta sure requires utmost patience.

Yippee!!! We got a building permit!

March 13, 2007

That pretty much says it all. Persistence pays off. We’re finally going to get to build our house. Yeah!

We’ve almost got a building permit!

February 28, 2007

After seven months, a City Council rezoning of our neighborhood, and headache after headache with the City of Atlanta, we’ve almost got a building permit! We’ve got just one step to go in the City’s labyrinth known as the building permit process, and we’re feeling pretty good that it will be approved. FINALLY!!!

We could go on forever about the nightmarish process, but suffice to say that we’re almost done and will try to forget it like a bad dream.

The demolition party

July 29, 2006

Our house building saga began way back in July 2006 when we decided to have a pre-house demolition party prior to its real demolition date. We invited friends over to help get the demolition underway, with the thought that people would bring spray paint and some hammers to have a festive evening. We thought we’d be able to save a section of the spray-painted drywall to put in the new house as a memorial. Alas, what we didn’t realize, is just how much pent up aggression many of our female friends had been withholding over the years. While the guys hung out on the front yard, the girls destroyed the inside of the house — some wielding a crowbar in one hand and a sledgehammer in the other. It was frightening! The end result was a bare-bones house with little left to hold it standing. From the outside, it looked like the house had been vandalized:

And from the inside, it was completely torn apart:

We had fun getting there:
